The Dean E. Smith Center Arena, also known as the Dean Dome, is a multi-purpose sports arena in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is home to the University of Carolina at Chapel Hill Tar Heels men’s basketball team. Originally named for former North Carolina men’s basketball coach Dean Smith, the center is one of the nation’s most popular athletic venues. It was renovated in 2008 and was recently named the most prestigious basketball facility in the world.

If you’re traveling from Charlotte, take I-40 West towards Chapel Hill. The exit for NC 54 West is located at exit #273A, about 4 miles from downtown. At the next stoplight, turn right and follow the signs for Manning Drive, also known as 15-501South. After you pass through this traffic light, turn left onto Skipper Bowles Drive, which is half a mile up the road.

For sports and entertainment in Chapel Hill, the Varsity Theatre is a great option. The historic building was constructed in 1927 and houses many events and exhibits, including basketball games. Parking is a great option if you’re going to attend a game at Smith Center. The arena is convenient for parking and is accessible by car and bus. You can park your car at the Rams Head parking deck on Ridge Road. Buses will pick you up at the Woolen gym in the afternoons and run every ten to fifteen minutes between the parking lot and the arena. The cost of a round-trip shuttle is $5, or $3 for one-way travel. Parking and shuttle permits are not required for Tar Heel Express events.
